Legislation: A9230 passed the Assembly Housing Committee
Posted on Tuesday, June 15 @ 19:33:00 CDT by sue

The Assembly's Housing Committee reported A9230 out of committee on June 15, 2010.
It has been sent to the Codes Committee, and, we hope, from there to the floor of the Assembly for a vote.

Now that A9230 has passed the Assembly's Housing Committee, we need to get it passed by the whole Assembly. Please write to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to urge that he get the bill passed. Click on "read more" below for details.

Re: A9230 - to help Mitchell-Lamas

Dear Speaker Silver:

As a tenant in a [current or former] Mitchell-Lama, I urge that you ensure the passage of A9230, sponsored by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal. The bill was reported out of the Assembly's Housing Committee on June 15, 2010.

This is the only bill that would put into rent stabilization all buildings in New York City and the surrounding counties if they leave or have left Mitchell-Lama or Section 8 projects

  • without regard to the year they were built, and
  • without "unique or peculiar circumstances" increases.

Tenants in pre-1974's are spending thousands of dollars to save their homes despite the DHCR regulation that says that just leaving Mitchell-Lama is not a "unique or peculiar circumstance." And tenants in later buildings are worse off still, facing huge rent increases as only some 15% are even eligible for Section 8 vouchers.

You have long supported tenant rights, and we need you to do it now, this term.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
